Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Supported by extensive research, EMDR offers innovative and transformative healing in various areas, including PTSD and other trauma and stress-related issues, depression, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, OCD, chronic pain, disassociation, addiction, performance anxiety, and attachment healing. By emphasizing the connection between mind and body, EMDR therapy taps into your inherent healing potential.

Our approach at Rootworks Wellness goes beyond EMDR therapy alone. We combine this powerful method with mind, memory, body, and attachment therapy approaches, enhancing the potential for personal growth and transformation. Whether you choose weekly sessions or opt for intensive healing retreats, EMDR therapy provides an effective solution for enduring and intense symptoms and obstacles. Other Trauma Therapies

Trauma can take many forms and can be the result of a variety of experiences and events, whether they happened once or are ongoing. When we experience trauma, our ability to cope effectively can become overwhelmed. This may have a lasting impact on our lives, sometimes for years or decades to come. Trauma-centered therapies at Rootworks Wellness offer a safe, supportive environment where you can process your experiences and emotions on a deeper level and work toward healing.

Trauma-centered therapies can help individuals:

  • Alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD

  • Develop adaptive strategies to manage triggers, stressors and big emotions

  • Foster stronger relationships and build a support system

  • Make meaning of what happened and discover a sense of purpose

Forms of trauma therapy can include Somatic Therapy and Movement, Attachment-Based Therapy, Brainspotting, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

Somatic Therapy and Movement

Somatic therapy recognizes the intrinsic connection between your mind and body as key to deep, lasting healing. Understanding that emotional experiences can manifest physically, this approach emphasizes the importance of tuning into bodily sensations and movements to promote overall well-being. Somatic therapy is a collaborative journey where we work together to unlock the body's natural capacity for healing and self-regulation. In sessions, you will be guided to explore and understand how your body responds to emotions, stress, and past experiences. Gentle movements, breathing exercises, guided visualization, and mindfulness techniques will all be utilized to help you to release tension, process emotions, and cultivate a deeper connection with yourself.

Attachment Therapy

Attachment therapy is centered around the powerful relationships that shape our lives from the very first moments. These connections influence how we relate to ourselves and others. Our approach focuses on bringing deeper awareness to these attachment patterns and how these patterns influence your interactions, working towards a greater ability to experience more secure and meaningful connections with yourself and others. Through compassionate exploration and experiential exercises, we will work together to uncover the ways attachment has impacted your life and work towards getting “unstuck”.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is an innovative, evidence-based approach to healing that embraces the profound connection between your mind and body through recognition that the eyes are windows to our inner emotional experiences. Brainspotting helps us tap into the brain's natural ability to process and heal from various challenges, traumas, and emotional dysregulation through finding specific eye positions, or "brainspots," that are linked to your emotional experiences. Our approach blends conversation with mindful attention to bodily sensations, creating a comprehensive healing experience where you will be able to release tension, rewire negative thought patterns, and move towards a more balanced state of being.

Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress can feel overwhelming, scary, and can leave you to feeling “stuck” or “frozen” in life without any control or safety. Our approach interweaves mind and body practices to address anxiety from a holistic perspective and empowers you to rewrite the script and take back the reins of control in your life.

In therapy, we will work together to explore the underlying causes and triggers for your anxiety and stress while also cultivating effective strategies to manage it that promote relaxation, resilience, and overall well-being. By increasing awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, we can identify patterns and triggers that contribute to your anxiety. Through a combination of talk therapy, EMDR, mindfulness techniques, and body-centered practices, we will work to reset the balance within mind and body.

Partnering with you along your journey, your therapist will support you with compassion, understanding, and a safe space to explore your anxiety and stress. Together, we will quiet the overwhelm that anxiety and stress bring and work towards greater inner peace, resilience, and joy.

Depression

As trauma-centered, holistic therapists, we understand that depression isn't just about feeling sad; it can impact your entire being. At Rootworks, we combine the power of both mind and body practices to help you better understand your feelings and patterns, as well as the roots of belief underneath them. Exploring the connection between your emotions, physical sensations, experiences and beliefs can lessen that heavy emotional weight you carry and guide you towards a more balanced, present and fulfilling life. Together, we'll work on developing healthy coping skills, fostering emotional resilience, and finding a sense of inner peace that will serve as a guiding light in our work together..

Grief and Loss

Grief and loss can have a profound impact on our emotional well-being. Therapy can provide essential support as you navigate this challenging journey. We take a holistic approach to help you heal and find solace in the face of grief.

In the therapy room, we offer a safe and compassionate space where you can openly express, explore, and make meaning of your feelings of loss and sorrow. We recognize that grief affects not only your emotions but also the body and spirit. Through gentle exploration, we will help you navigate the various ways grief may manifest within you. Together, we will work on building resilience and developing adaptive coping strategies to honor your unique experience of loss.

Our goal is to guide you towards healing and finding a renewed sense of hope. With the combination of talk therapy, attachment work, mindfulness techniques, and somatic approaches, we will work alongside you as you process emotions, find meaning, and gradually restore your sense of well-being. Our therapeutic journey together will focus on honoring your grief while nurturing your own growth and resilience.

LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

At Rootworks Wellness, creating a sense of belonging is central to what we do. As a major part of that, we see and support LGBTQ+ people as the whole, unique individuals that they are. Our clinicians are passionate about working with queer individuals, supporting their needs within and through their areas of expertise. This means you don't have to choose between a provider that supports your queer identity, and a provider that is knowledgeable about your mental health needs. Whether you want EMDR therapy that is queer-affirming, or therapy that focuses on LGBTQ+ specific issues but still goes beyond traditional talk therapy, we've got you covered. As part of our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, we specifically offer trans-affirming, gender-focused therapy, and groups where queer individuals can heal and connect in community with others.

Children and Families

When working with children and families to provide support during life’s challenging moments, we provide a safe and warm environment where children can express themselves through play therapy and art therapy and where families can work towards healthier relationships, improved communication, and greater cohesiveness. Our approach combines a variety of techniques to address the unique needs of children and families, creating a nurturing space where children and families can thrive and grow.

In sessions, we empower children and families to address the challenges they may be facing and build resilience. We work closely with parents, offering guidance, support, and effective parenting strategies to help children work towards increased self-awareness, emotional regulation, and coping skills. Through fostering open communication and collaboration, we promote healthy family dynamics and support personal growth. Together, we will work towards creating a harmonious environment in which children and families can develop meaningful connections, heal, and flourish.

EMDR therapy, trauma therapy, and individual therapy for anxiety, and therapy for depression are just some of the therapies provided at Rootworks Wellness in Cincinnati.
